#1. rad-da ? he repelled
بَلْ تَأْتِيهِم بَغْتَةً فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ
Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved.(21.40)
#2. sad-da ? he turned away
فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ آمَنَ بِهِ وَمِنْهُم مَّن صَدَّ عَنْهُ وَكَفَى بِجَهَنَّمَ سَعِيرًا
And some among them believed in it, and some among them were turned away.(4.55)
#3. gar’ra ? he deceived
وَذَرِ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا دِينَهُمْ لَعِبًا وَلَهْوًا وَغَرَّتْهُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا
Leave alone those who have made a sport and a pastime of their religion and whom the life of the world has deceived(6.70)
#4. hay-ya ? he lived
إِنَّ اللَّهَ فَالِقُ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى يُخْرِجُ الْحَيَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ
Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of grain and date seeds. He brings the living out of the dead (6.95)
#5. shahida ? he bore witness
شَهِدَ اللَّهُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَأُولُو الْعِلْمِ قَائِمًا بِالْقِسْطِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge – [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.(3.18)
#6. ‘amila ? he worked/did
مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً
Whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while he is a believer – We will surely cause him to live a good life…
#7. zan-na ? he thought
وَظَنَّ أَهْلُهَا أَنَّهُمْ قَادِرُونَ عَلَيْهَا
and its people suppose that they have capability over it,(18.41)
#8. kariha ? he disliked
لِيُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ وَيُبْطِلَ الْبَاطِلَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ
That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.(8.8)
#9. dal-la ? he wasted
الَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work.”
(18.104)
#10. ‘ad-da ? he counted
لَّقَدْ أَحْصَاهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدًّا
He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting.(19.94)
#11. md’da ? he spread out
وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارًا
And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers(13.3)
#12. ‘alima ? he knew
وَإِذَا عَلِمَ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا شَيْئًا اتَّخَذَهَا هُزُوًا أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
And when he knows anything of Our verses, he takes them in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.(45.9)
